Carbon (GHG) Accounting and Management

Event: Carbon (GHG) Accounting and Management

By promoting transparency in business, organisations of all sizes and in all sectors can target significant improvements in business performance, enhance relationships with stakeholders and realise benefits in support of their long-term goals.

Managing and accounting Greenhouse Gas Emissions, becoming carbon neutral and carbon trading are new concepts in business with which business leaders and professional will need to be come familiar if they are to maintain their position as the primary business advisor to their organisation.

The recent discussion paper issued by the ACCA in February 2009 entitled Carbon Accounting: Too Little Too Late identified that finance professionals too can make a vital contribution in areas such as:

· Evaluating the returns on low carbon investment proposals
· Developing organisation-relevant carbon and GHG KPI’s and related measurement protocols
· Auditing and assuring carbon and GHG disclosures
· Advising clients on the best course to take in adapting to climate change, including probable investment costs and returns

ACCA Malaysia is working with the SHEMSI Sdn Bhd and Conestoga-Rovers and Associates (Eupore) Ltd to make available recognised training in Carbon (GHG) Accounting and Management. This programme is aimed at providing a better understanding of internal controls and how it can be applied in businesses based on the objectives and risks.

ACStan Rodgers and/or Amarjit Kaur will conduct the training. Both speakers have undergone training in the UK on climate change and have a background in standards development in this area as well as extensive national and international experience in working with clients seeking to identify and manage their environmental and social impacts.
